The Israeli military confirmed it had carried out airstrikes targeting what it described as "military infrastructure" belonging to Hezbollah near the Syria-Lebanon border. According to Israel, the infrastructure was used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons from Syria into Lebanon, which it claimed violated the terms of a recently agreed-upon ceasefire.
"The Air Force carried out strikes against military infrastructure located near the border crossing between Syria and Lebanon. This site was actively used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons from Syria into Lebanon," the Israeli military stated on Saturday (November 30, 2024), as reported by AFP.
The Israeli military further alleged that the smuggling activities occurred after the ceasefire came into effect. In a separate operation, Israeli forces conducted searches in southern Lebanon over the past 24 hours. During the operation, they claimed to have seized weapons hidden by Hezbollah in a mosque.

Background of the Ceasefire
The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect last Wednesday morning, aimed at halting the intense cross-border clashes between the two sides. As part of the agreement, Lebanese forces and UN peacekeepers were to be deployed in southern Lebanon. At the same time, Israeli troops were required to withdraw from the area within 60 days.
The agreement also stipulated that Hezbollah withdraw its forces north of the Litani River, about 30 kilometers (20 miles) from the Israeli border, and dismantle its military infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
Israel’s Stance
Israel has emphasized its right to "full military freedom of action" in Lebanon should Hezbollah violate the ceasefire agreement or attempt to rearm. The Israeli military has confirmed conducting several strikes in Lebanon since the ceasefire came into effect last Wednesday.
The rising tensions underscore the significant challenges in maintaining stability along the Israel-Lebanon border. Despite the ceasefire, the situation on the ground remains volatile, with the potential for renewed escalation at any moment.
